John Riggins
Washington Redskins Legendary Running Back

John Riggins, nicknamed “The Diesel”, is widely regarded as one of the greatest running backs in the history of the National Football League. After being selected sixth overall in the 1971 Draft, Riggins played fifteen seasons for both the New York Jets and Washington Redskins. In the 1982 season, the Diesel lead the Redskins to their first ever Super Bowl Championship, earning the award of Super Bowl MVP. After hanging up the cleats in 1986, Riggins was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992, just his second year of eligibility.

In the years following his retirement from the gridiron, Riggins has ventured successfully into the media industry. Riggins has performed in productions both on prime time television and off-Broadway. The Diesel has also hosted notable football talk shows with various on-air networks ranging from the NFL Network, to Sirius NFL Radio, to Redskins Radio on 980 The Team where he is currently heard on The Kevin and Cooley Show and The Redskins Pregame Show.
